|The Grubb Parsons 20 inch Telescope is a very large telescope built for the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh in 1967.|
It was a training telescope, designed to have the features of a professional observatory instrument.
In 2012, MKAS was awarded it, selected from a number of Astronomical organisations around the world.
However, on its removal from its Observatory in Edinburgh, it was damaged.
At the moment, it is in bits in a shed! It needs a lot of work doing on it to make it useable. The electronics needs replacing and the drive system needs upgrading.
What are we going to do with it?
see it and use it
Our project has over 19 objectives, which start with installing the telescope in our observatory and finish with promoting it to all interested users in the area.
An artistic impression of what the telescope will look like once installed in our observatory!
Who do we plan to let use it?
