THE GRUBB PARSONS GP20 TELESCOPE PROJECT

	The Grubb Parsons 20 inch Telescope is a very large telescope built for the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh in 1967. It was a training telescope, designed to have the features of a professional observatory instrument. In 2012, MKAS was awarded it, selected from a number of Astronomical organisations around the world. However, on its removal from its Observatory in Edinburgh, it was damaged.
We then spent several years repairing and upgrading it, and it is now ready for initial 'First Light' testing. At the moment, it is in storage, awaiting the opportunity to start using it at a suitable site. What are we going to do with it?
Our members will refurbish it We are currently raising funds for it We wish to install it in an observatory Invite everyone to come and see it and use it Run events with it Engage young people in its use Provide disabled access
An artistic impression of what the telescope will look like once installed in an observatory! Who do we plan to let use it? Local schools Local astronomy societies The general public (via outreach events), including access for the disabled Academic, professional and semi-professional users

The society is progressing plans to raise the large sum of funds required to house and repair the telescope, for everyone to enjoy.
